NIKE Wins Lawsuit Against Adidas and the Well-known Football Player Zheng Zhi
In July 2009, the Shanghai No.1 Intermediate People’s Court granted an effective first instance decision that Adidas Suzhou and Zheng Zhi should bear related liabilities for compensating damages of 200,000 RMB suffered by the plaintiff NIKE Suzhou. The case is actually the first case regarding sportswear sponsorship in China. NIKE’s rights and interests under the contracts were infringed, but NIKE did not claim liability for breach of contract against the well-known football player Zheng Zhi; instead, NIKE sued the third party and Zheng Zhi for contributory infringement, which was finally supported by the court and became the first such case in China in this regard. George Q. FU and Jean Yang represented Nike in this case.
