Ms. Cathy Wu graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLM degree in International Business Law. Since 2002 she has been working with Watson & Band Law Offices. She serves as legal counsel for a number of foreign companies and their Chinese subsidiaries or branch offices and provides legal services mainly on financial futures, corporate compliance and transaction licensing.

Ms. Wu has long been dedicated to practices on the bulky commodity market and the bond market. She has provided professional legal advice for a number of multinational corporations with respect to their businesses inChina, including legal compliance concerning corporate business models, legal assessment of operational decisions, corporate governance, contract law compliance, labor law compliance, and anti-commercial bribery compliance.

As a legal counsel for Shanghai Futures Exchange and a special legal advisor in bulky commodity engaged by the Administrative Committee of Shanghai FTZ Pilot Area, Ms. Wu is particularly skilled in combining operations of intangible assets and providing clients with legal services concerning strategic portfolio management, commercial transactions and enforcement strategies. She has accumulated rich experience in trademark authorization and licensing, introduction of foreign copyrights into the Chinese market, technology import and export, expanded operation of derivatives, franchising, financing through technical development and transfer, service inventions, trade secrets, anti-counterfeiting and enforcement actions, Customs protection, and other matters.

In terms of governmental legislative projects, Ms. Wu was entrusted in 2014 by the Administrative Committee of the Shanghai FTZ Pilot Area to draft the (Interim) Administrative Rules of theChina(Shanghai) Free Trade Zone Pilot Area for Transactions on the Bulky Commodity Spot Market. She later participated in the entire process including establishment, assessment and acceptance of the spot platform. In 2015, she was entrusted by the Shanghai Intellectual Property Office to help draft the Rules on People’s Mediation of IP Rights (the core of the SIPO’s ministry-level project) as well as related mediation documents.

Ms. Wu is presently a member of the Internet Law Committee of Shanghai Bar Association, a member of the China Law Society, and a special expert in bulky commodity engaged by the Administrative Committee of the Shanghai FTZ Pilot Area.
